To further combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the City of Portage la Prairie is prohibiting access to all city-maintained playground equipment and outdoor fitness equipment effective Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

Signs will be installed on all play structures in city parks, as well as the outdoor fitness equipment located along the Crescent Lake Walking Path by the end of the week.

Based on information indicating that the COVID-19 virus can linger on plastic or steel surfaces for up to three days and in keeping with the Province of Manitoba’s directives for responsible social distancing, the City of Portage la Prairie feels it is in the best interest of the citizens to prohibit access to these structures until further notice.

Public parks and green spaces, however, are not closing at this time, although, the city urges all those accessing these open spaces to practice safe distancing protocols as laid out by the Province of Manitoba at https://manitoba.ca/covid19/socialdistancing/index.html

Access will be prohibited to any playground equipment and outdoor fitness equipment located in the following city-owned playgrounds and green spaces as noted below and shown on the attached map.

1. McKay Playground
2. 9th St Playground
3. Prosvita Park
4. Central Park
5. Dalzel (7-11) Park
6. Koko Platz Playground
7. Bjorn Park (Koko Platz Community Club)
8. Caithness Street Playground
